“Galabé and Rum” Tour: 1-hour discovery tour

The Payet et Rivière sugar shack and distillery invites you to step inside for a unique insight into the island’s sugar-making history and the production of Galabé, a local treat made from pure cane juice with an intense and refined flavour.

Dress code: sneakers or open-toed shoes that provide good support, or even flip-flops, but heels are not practical.
Recommended parking: in front of the “Dodo” store.

Guided by enthusiasts, you’ll discover the secrets of an almost-forgotten, time-honored Galabé recipe, passed down from generation to generation. The tour will also take you through the production stages of Réunion’s very first estate-bottled rums, from the field to the bottle.

Press your own sugarcane juice using a traditional tool, explore the different stages of sugarcane processing, and watch the machinery in an open-air workshop overlooking the ocean. The tour ends on a high note with a generous tasting.

This “Discovery” tour is suitable for both children and adults.
